Royal English book bindings
A survey of bindings made for English monarchs from the Tudors onward, written by Cyril Davenport of the British Museum and published by Seeley in London in 1896 for collectors and bibliophiles. Forty plates reproduce gold-tooled covers as white line on black: royal arms and crowned ciphers, semé fields of small stamps, cornerpieces, strapwork frames and dense scrolling foliage.
