Bookbinding in France
A survey of French decorative bookbinding by William Younger Fletcher of the British Museum, published in London and New York in 1894 for collectors, librarians and students of the book trade. The plates photograph whole covers in raised spines and dark leather: gilt strapwork cartouches, dotted grounds with tooled flowers, dense lace borders, and lattices studded with gold rosettes, usable as repeat patterns, frames and corner ornaments.
