Giorgio Vasari's sixteenth-century biographies of Italian artists, translated by Gaston du C. de Vere and issued in London by Macmillan and the Medici Society in 1912 for collectors and art students. Halftone plates reproduce Renaissance panels, frescoes and altarpieces — enthroned Madonnas, Adorations, Resurrections — offering crowded figure groups, carved throne ornament, inlaid pavements and arched fresco frames.
