Peasant art in Italy
A 1913 special number of The Studio magazine edited by Charles Holme, with essays by Sidney Churchill, Vincenzo Balzano and Elisa Ricci, surveying Italian regional folk craft for British and American collectors and designers. Colour plates record enamelled gold earrings, pearl-drop pendants and filigree crosses against plain grounds, giving clean isolated motifs: rosettes, crescents, birds and strung-bead fringes.
