English ironwork of the XVIIth & XVIIIth centuries; an historical & analytical account of the development of exterior smithcraft
A survey of English wrought-iron gates, railings and screens of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, written by metalwork historian John Starkie Gardner and published by Batsford in London in 1911 for architects, smiths and antiquaries. Photographic plates and measured line drawings record scrollwork panels, overthrows, finials and repoussé leafwork, giving designers ready silhouettes, border repeats and ornamental cresting motifs.
