The gardens of England in the southern & western counties
A 1907 special number from the offices of The Studio, edited by Charles Holme, surveying gardens of England's southern and western counties for garden owners, designers and readers of the art press in London and New York. The colour plates reproduce watercolours of massed herbaceous borders, clipped lawns, stone urns, balustrades and cottage walls, giving designers dense flower textures, saturated pinks and golds against green, and garden architecture set in loose painterly foliage.
