A history of fine art in India and Ceylon, from the earliest times to the present day
Vincent Arthur Smith's survey of Indian and Ceylonese sculpture, architecture and painting, published by the Clarendon Press at Oxford in 1911 for British scholars and collectors. The plates reproduce Mughal and Rajput miniatures: a white-bearded scribe under a blossoming tree, a figure crossing a colonnaded terrace by moonlight, with floral scroll borders and flat pigment fields useful for pattern and palette.
