Summer holidays among the glories of France, her cathedrals and churches
A traveller's account of French cathedrals and parish churches by T. Francis Bumpus, published in London in 1902 for tourists and amateurs of Gothic architecture. The 91 plates are halftone photographs, heavy in contrast and grain: west fronts, rose windows, and long nave perspectives receding into rib-vaulted choirs, useful for silhouettes of tracery, arcade rhythm, and dark architectural backdrops.
