Flags of the world
A 1917 reference volume on flags compiled by U.S. Navy officer Byron McCandless and National Geographic editor Gilbert Grosvenor, published by the National Geographic Society in Washington for general readers and wartime identification. Color plates arrange hundreds of flags, pennants, standards and ensigns in numbered grids, with heraldic eagles, crescents, crosses, stripes and star fields that supply flat-color emblem shapes, borders and swallowtail silhouettes.
