The devil's picture-books. A history of playing cards
A history of playing cards written by Mrs. John King Van Rensselaer and published by Dodd, Mead in New York in 1890 for collectors and general readers. Plates reproduce early European and Asian cards: stiff woodcut kings and queens, checkered and cross-hatched costume, hearts and diamond pips, and round Indian cards with seated figures, useful as flat-color pattern and figure stencils.
