Gravelot
Vera Salomons's 1911 study of the French draughtsman Hubert-François Gravelot (1699–1773), issued in London by J. & E. Bumpus for collectors and students of eighteenth-century book illustration. The plates reproduce his engraved frontispieces, headpieces and tailpiece vignettes: rococo scroll cartouches enclosing small figure scenes, church and library interiors crowded with hooped skirts and frock coats, and woodland groups, all in dense line engraving usable as frames, borders and period figure stock.
