Marbles and bronzes; fifty plates from selected subjects in the Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities
A 1914 plate album of fifty photographs from the British Museum's Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities, compiled by keeper A. H. Smith and printed for the Trustees as a museum guide for students and visitors. Marble and bronze heads, torsos and reliefs are shot against flat black grounds in strong raking light, giving high-contrast silhouettes usable as cut-out portrait motifs.
