Antique marbles in the collection of the Hispanic Society of America
A 1917 catalogue of Greek and Roman marbles held by the Hispanic Society of America in New York, written by José Pijoán for collectors, museum visitors and students of classical sculpture. The plates are studio photographs of fragmentary statues and heads lit against black, each set on a plain stone block, giving designers high-contrast silhouettes of drapery folds, broken torsos and carved curls.
