Studies in ancient furniture; couches and beds of the Greeks, Etruscans and Romans
An archaeological monograph by Caroline Ransom Williams, published in 1905 by the University of Chicago Press, cataloguing Greek, Etruscan and Roman couches and beds for classicists and museum workers. The plates are halftone photographs of carved reliefs, terracotta urns and surviving bronze and bone fittings, with sphinx-footed supports, palmette ornament and rows of turned legs shown in profile against plain grounds — useful for furniture silhouettes and classical ornament details.
