Time telling through the ages
A popular history of timekeeping written by Harry Chase Brearley and published in 1919 by Doubleday, Page for the watch manufacturer Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro., aimed at general American readers and customers of cheap pocket watches. The plates mix sharp studio photographs of antique watches, clock movements and sundials against black grounds with soft, coarse-grained halftones of workshops, interiors and figures; the object plates give clean cut-out silhouettes of dials, cases and cross-shaped and shell-form watches.
