The shipbuilding industry; its history, practice, science and finance
A technical survey of shipbuilding history, yard practice, engineering and finance, written by David H. Pollock and published by Methuen in London in 1905 for shipyard managers, marine engineers and investors. The plates are halftone photographs of works interiors: gantry cranes and travelling jibs, engine rooms with pipework and handwheels, machine shops under glazed roofs, and workmen standing beside castings for scale, giving designers grainy industrial textures, steel lattice silhouettes and deep-shadow machine forms.
