Folk-medicine; a chapter in the history of culture
A folklore monograph by William George Black, issued in London in 1883 for the Folk-Lore Society, surveying charms, cures and magical remedies for antiquarians and early ethnographers. The single wood engraving shows a capering torch-bearing figure in loose robes leaping above a band of scrubby foliage, offering hatched line work, a silhouetted hedge strip and a ready-made emblem of fire ritual.
