Art and the formation of taste;
Lucy Crane's posthumously published lectures on art, ornament and household taste, issued by Macmillan in London in 1882 for general readers and illustrated with line blocks after drawings by her brothers Thomas and Walter Crane. The plates are dense black-and-white line work: arrangements of decorated plates, jugs, vases, fans and dried grasses, floral headpieces built around a symmetrical urn, and copies of the Parthenon frieze, useful as ornament borders, mantel still lifes and stock pottery motifs.
