The anatomy of pattern
A short instructional treatise on pattern construction by the English designer and writer Lewis Foreman Day, published in London by B.T. Batsford in 1887 for art students, craftsmen and manufacturers. The plates are high-contrast black-and-white repeats — foliate scrolls, diapers, stars and lotus forms — some overlaid with faint construction lines showing the underlying grid, usable as tiling fills, endpapers and backgrounds.
