A design manual by Lewis Foreman Day, published in London by B.T. Batsford in 1888 for craftsmen, decorators and art students learning how ornament fits the surfaces it covers. Plates reproduce carved acanthus scrolls, dense German strapwork crowded with birds and insects, and Arab plaster borders, all in hard black line and hatching that reduces cleanly to stencils, repeat patterns and rules.
