Astronomy without mathematics
A popular astronomy primer by Edmund Beckett, Baron Grimthorpe, published in New York by G.P. Putnam in 1869 to explain orbits, tides and optics to readers without mathematical training. The figures are plain line diagrams: ellipses with lettered radii and foci, arrowed orbital paths, and a hatched prism splitting rays, useful as spare geometric line art and lettered schematics.
