A course of experiments in physical measurement
A laboratory manual by Harold Whiting, published by D.C. Heath in Boston in 1897, setting out physics measurement exercises for college students. The wood-engraved figures show pulleys, balances, spring scales and graduated dials keyed with italic letters, drawn in dense line hatching that renders wood grain, metal rims and scale divisions as flat black-on-white pattern.
