The internal work of the wind
A Smithsonian Institution research paper of 1893 by Samuel Pierpont Langley, reporting wind-velocity measurements taken with a Robinson anemometer as groundwork for powered flight, addressed to physicists and early aeronautical readers. The plates are line graphs on ruled grids, jagged velocity traces with small circle data points, plate numbers and captions naming wind direction and hour, offering ready-made scientific chart forms.
