An 1891 ethnographic pamphlet by Stewart Culin, issued by the University of Pennsylvania Press, describing two gambling games played in Philadelphia's Chinese community for readers of folklore and anthropology. The plates mix halftone photographs of pierced cash coins and stacked counters with a line engraving of the fan-tan table and rod and a full-page reproduction of a painting of Kwan Tí flanked by attendants, giving designers coin forms, gaming-table diagrams, and Chinese character grids.
