Catalogue of the works of art belonging to the City of New York
An official inventory published in 1909 by the Art Commission of the City of New York, recording the statues, memorial tablets and architectural sculpture owned by the city for the use of officials, curators and the commission itself. The plates are halftone photographs of bronze and stone works in situ — a cloaked standing figure on a pedestal, a shrouded relief panel set in a granite exedra, allegorical figure groups with incised inscriptions — useful for monument silhouettes, lettering cut in stone, and the heavy tonal contrast of sunlit sculpture against dark foliage.
