Old point lace : and how to copy and imitate it

Hawkins, Daisy Waterhouse · 1878 · London : Chatto and Windus · 3 pictures

A practical handbook on copying needlepoint lace, written and illustrated by Daisy Waterhouse Hawkins and published by Chatto and Windus in London in 1878 for amateur lacemakers and collectors. The plates print lace borders in white reserved against flat red, so every ground mesh, bar and scalloped edge reads as sharp two-tone pattern usable as ornament, border stock or repeat texture.
