Introduction to the study of Latin inscriptions

Egbert, J. C. (James Chidester), 1859-1948 · 1896 · New York : American Book Co. · 19 pictures

A textbook of Latin epigraphy by James Chidester Egbert, published in New York by the American Book Company in 1896 for university students learning to read and date Roman inscriptions. The plates are halftone photographs of carved stone tablets and bronze plaques, showing ruled columns of capital letters, abbreviations, zodiac and figure reliefs at the margins, and eroded or pitted surfaces that print as coarse grey and near-black fields; useful for lettering reference, stone texture, and framed grid layouts.
