A two-volume reference on British and Continental armory by John Woodward and George Burnett, published in Edinburgh and London in 1892 for antiquaries, genealogists and heraldic draughtsmen. The plates are flat colour-printed shields with heavy black outlines — lions, fleurs-de-lis, crowned crossed arrows, cannon and bordered quarterings in olive, sky blue, red and grey, useful as ready-made emblem shapes and limited palettes.
