The magic art
A 1920 conjuring manual self-published in Kansas City by the stage magician Donald Holmes, explaining tricks and apparatus to amateur and working performers. The halftone photographs isolate props against plain studio backdrops: star-appliquéd fringed table covers, slatted tripod stands, tumblers of confetti and loose eggs, giving designers period magic-show hardware and high-contrast grey plate textures.
