The traditional games of England, Scotland, and Ireland, with tunes, singing-rhymes, and methods of playing according to the variants extant and recorded in different parts of the Kingdom;

Gomme, Alice Bertha · 1894 · London : D. Nutt · 23 pictures

Alice Bertha Gomme's two-volume folklore survey of British children's games, published by David Nutt in London in 1894 for folklorists and collectors, pairs game texts and tunes with diagrams of how each was played. The wood-engraved figures show groups of children in Victorian dress ranged in lines, rings and facing ranks, numbered Fig. 1, 2, 3, useful as small silhouette-like crowd vignettes, diagram captions, and pattern motifs.
