The Tiffany studios collection of notable antique oriental rugs
A 1906 sales catalogue issued by Tiffany Studios in New York, cataloguing antique Oriental rugs for collectors, dealers, and wealthy buyers, printed at the University Press in Cambridge. Each plate is a halftone photograph of a single rug laid flat and shot square-on, giving full field-and-border layouts: medallions, prayer niches, stepped lozenges, palmettes, meander and rosette guard stripes, all reduced to hard black-and-white texture usable as pattern fills, frames, and tile motifs.
