An auction catalogue issued by the Philadelphia dealer Stan. V. Henkels in 1917 for the two-day sale of Thomas B. Harned's paintings, Washington relics, historical china and engraved portraits, addressed to bidders and collectors. The plates are coarse halftones of oil landscapes, heavily inked so that trees, fences and farm buildings read as black silhouettes against pale skies and water, useful as high-contrast tonal backgrounds, dusk skylines and grainy textures.
