Catalogue of the gallery of art of the New York historical society
A 1915 collection catalogue of the New-York Historical Society's gallery of art, printed for the Society's members and for scholars tracing the provenance of its paintings. The plates are coarse halftone reproductions of oil portraits and early panels, many trimmed to oval, round or octagonal frames: sitters in starched ruffs, lace cuffs and gold chains against near-black grounds, plus a birth-chamber scene on a Florentine birth tray, useful for silhouetted vignette shapes and high-contrast figure cutouts.
