A illustrated dictionary of architectural terms covering Greek, Roman, Italian and Gothic building, published by John Henry Parker at Oxford in 1845 for antiquarians, clergy and architects studying medieval churches. The wood-engravings isolate single members — capitals, bases, clustered piers, arch mouldings, foliage carving — drawn in fine outline with hatched shading, giving designers clean cut-out ornament details and profile studies against blank ground.
