Cumberland and Westmorland
A county guide to the parish churches of Cumberland and Westmorland, written by the antiquary J. Charles Cox for Allen's County Churches series and published in London in 1913 for travellers and church-visitors. The plates are coarse-grained halftone photographs of stone churches seen from across fields and graveyards — squat west towers, roofless abbey walls, porches under trees — useful for grainy monochrome texture, silhouetted building masses, and low-horizon landscape framing.
