The curse of tramp life
A cautionary autobiography of hobo life by Leon Ray Livingston, the rail-riding writer known as A-No. 1, illustrated by Joseph Earl Shrock and issued by Livingston's own press in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1912 to warn boys off the road. Coarse ink line drawings use dense parallel hatching for skies, smoke and track beds, with silhouetted tramps, signposts and low sunsets as small headpiece vignettes.
