An alphabetical architectural encyclopedia by Robert Stuart, published in New York and Cincinnati by A. S. Barnes in 1854 and written for builders and working tradesmen rather than scholars. The cuts are small wood engravings of buildings and fragments \u2014 an Ethiopian church front with crenellations, a round thatched temple on a rock, a stele-like doorway, four standing piers on plinths \u2014 drawn in blunt outline with coarse hatched shadow, useful as compact silhouettes and spot illustrations.
