Cyclopedia of painters and paintings
A four-volume alphabetical reference on painters and paintings, edited by John Denison Champlin with Charles C. Perkins, issued by Scribner's in New York in 1913 for collectors, students and general readers. The plates run to small pen-and-ink head-and-shoulders portraits of artists, copied after painted self-portraits and worked in loose contour with hatched shading, plus reproductions of pictures and facsimile signatures—useful for period faces, beards and collars, and for monogram and signature marks.
