Dactyliotheca Smithiana
A Latin catalogue of the ancient engraved gems and cameos owned by Joseph Smith, British consul in Venice, compiled by the Florentine antiquary Antonio Francesco Gori and printed by G. B. Pasquali in Venice in 1767 for collectors and antiquarians. Each plate centres one oval cameo bust in fine line and stipple engraving, with a Roman numeral above, a small blank oval at mid-page, and a bracketed tablet cartouche holding the sitter's Latin name, giving designers ready-made medallion frames, label plaques and classical profile heads.
