A German memorial biography of Albrecht Dürer, written by Heinrich Konrad Arend and printed at Goslar by Johann Christoph König in 1728 to mark the bicentenary of the artist's death, aimed at scholars and admirers of Nuremberg art. The plates here are letterpress ornament rather than portraiture: heavy swash initials built from interlaced ribbon strokes and curling tendrils, plus woodcut headpieces of sunflowers, five-petalled blossoms and serrated foliage on a grassy mound, usable as drop caps, rules and chapter dividers.
