Siebmacher, Johann, d. 1611 · 1737 · Nürnberg : Bey Johann Adam Schmidt · 14 pictures

An eighteenth-century German alchemical tract attributed to Johann Siebmacher, printed at Nuremberg in 1737 by Johann Adam Schmidt for readers of hermetic and Rosicrucian literature. Its pictures are letterpress printers' ornaments: heavy blackletter initials filled with cross-hatching and ending in curled strokes, and a small woodcut vignette of two winged putti suspending a laurel wreath above a flower swag — usable as drop caps, headpieces and tailpiece motifs.
