A German art-historical survey of late Gothic painting in Augsburg around the jubilee year 1500, written by the priest-scholar Johannes Evangelista Weis and published in Munich in 1901 as a jubilee offering to a general Catholic readership. The plates are halftone reproductions of panel paintings and pen drawings: martyrdoms, funerals and Masses set under Gothic tracery arches, crowded groups in veils and mitres, plus close details of haloed heads and hands, useful for figure poses, drapery and traceried framing devices.
