A German art-historical monograph by Reinhold von Lichtenberg, published in Strasbourg in 1902, tracing portraiture on tomb monuments from antiquity through the Italian Renaissance for scholars and students of sculpture. The plates are halftone photographs of carved wall tombs, recumbent effigies, Roman grave stelae and portrait roundels, offering architectural frames, pilaster and garland ornament, inscription tablets, and figures in heavy drapery.
