Das ärgerliche Leben und schreckliche Ende des vielberüchtigten Erz-Schwarzkünstlers Johannis Fausti [microform]

Widmann, Georg Rudolf, fl. 1560-1600, Pfitzer, Johann Nicolaus, 1634-1674 · 1834 · Reutlingen : B.G. Kurtz · 20 pictures

A cheap Reutlingen chapbook of 1834 retelling the Faust legend from the older Widmann–Pfitzer versions, printed by B.G. Kurtz for popular German readers. Crude relief-cut blocks show Faust signing the pact in a cluttered study, figures flying over a hilly landscape, gabled street scenes and graveyard conjurings — blunt black outline, coarse hatching, and small captioned frames.
