An English edition of Leonardo da Vinci's notes on painting, translated by John Francis Rigaud with a life by John William Brown, published in London in 1835 for painters and drawing students. Outline engravings show nude male figures standing, striding, throwing and balancing, some overlaid with lettered lines and arcs marking centres of gravity, proportion and perspective construction.
