A self-published London quarto of 1773 by John Hill, presenting ten plates of insects drawn and engraved from nature both at life size and as magnified under the lucernal microscope, with descriptive text for naturalists and microscope owners. The engravings isolate single insects in profile on bare paper, built from fine hatched line, with veined wings, feathered antennae, banded abdomens, small cast shadows and lettered reference marks that can be cropped, enlarged or reversed as line ornament.
