Danfrie, Philippe, ca. 1530-ca. 1606 · 1597 · A Paris : Chez ledict Danfrie ... · 19 pictures

A French manual on the graphometer, written and published by the instrument maker Philippe Danfrie in Paris in 1597 for surveyors, land measurers and military engineers who needed distances, plans and maps without arithmetic. The engravings set small figures with sighting instruments in hilly country below walled hill towns and star-shaped forts, with ruled sight lines crossing the scene and a framed diagram inset at the foot; useful for landscape backgrounds, geometric line overlays and cartouches.
