A Latin antiquarian treatise on ancient secular and sacred diptychs, with appended necrologies and calendars, written by Sebastiano Donati and printed at Lucca by Filippo Maria Benedini in 1753 for scholars of Roman antiquity. The plates here are square woodcut initials — bold capitals set against dense acanthus scrollwork inside ruled borders — usable as drop caps, monograms, or sources of foliate ornament.
