De la demonomanie des sorciers
Jean Bodin's treatise on witchcraft and demonic magic, printed in Paris by Jacques du Puys in 1580 for jurists, clergy and educated readers arguing over witch trials. The index holds 22 woodcut initials: heavy black letters set in foliage, vines and fruit, with satyrs, grotesque masks and dolphin-like beasts, usable as drop caps, spot ornaments or borders.
