Winckelmann's history of ancient art in Hendrik Jansen's French edition, published in Paris by Etienne Gide in 1801 for antiquarians, collectors and artists studying Greek and Roman sculpture. The plates mix pure outline engravings of relief compositions with tonal engravings of busts, torsos and broken marbles, plus oval vignettes of gem and cameo subjects: usable as figure outlines, drapery studies, and framed classical medallions.
